At the gates of the XVIII History and Archivology Workshop

Dedicated in recent years to the Day of the Cuban Archivist, the Workshop on History and Archivology, sponsored by the base section of the UNHIC and the National Archive of the Republic of Cuba, is already about to be inaugurated under the slogan: "BY THE PRESERVATION OF HISTORICAL MEMORY ".

On November 3, in commemoration of the day in which Joaquín Llaverías was invested as General Director of the institution, the activities will begin with the words of the President of the Organizing Committee Martha M. Ferriol Marchena, at 9:00 a.m., in the Salón Martí Immediately, the scientific program will be opened, covering 20 thematic panels, with presentations by 110 authors from 8 countries, including Mexico and Venezuela.

The opening gala will take place at 1:00 p.m. where there will be a revelation of the homage letter to José Luciano Franco in the Reading Room of the National Archive of the Republic of Cuba, will also be the presentation of the documentary "Simply Glory", dedicated to the outstanding historian Gloria García Rodríguez, and the performance of the "Vocal abobad" Group. To end the day, a documentary exhibition dedicated to the African presence in Cuba and on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Slave Route Project will be inaugurated.

The academic meetings will run until November 5 at 1:00 p.m. At which time the presentation of No. 21 of the National Archive Bulletin will take place. At the end, the closing words of the event will be read and the call for the next edition that is expected for 2016 will be launched.

The History and Archives Workshop aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge among specialists, technicians and researchers of social sciences and information and documentation centers; promote institutional cooperation in the field of archival, conservation, restoration and historical studies, and encourage the use of ICTs in the production of high added value archival products.

The importance accorded to archives in the preservation of historical memory is increasingly growing in the current globalizing contexts. Likewise, the repeated use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) from the development of computer science has expanded the services on a scientific basis. New management techniques, fund studies, conservation and restoration take place today with a common goal, the improvement of archival work.
